L.A. Baez (Luis Alexis Baez Portalatin) – Army Veteran, Writer and Philanthropist: L.A. Baez was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in May 1991. He comes from a distinguished family, whose love of education and culture served as his primary inspiration to write. From an early age he was very intrigued by books. In sixth grade, he wrote his first short story which led him to win second place in a competition in the southern region of Puerto Rico. He graduated from high school in 2009 and entered the University in the same year.

In 2012, he stopped his studies to join the U.S. Army. That same year he joined the Puerto Rico National Guard Language Center, where he graduated with honors. Later that year he went to the Military Police Academy at Fort Leonard Woods, MO. On November 30, 2012 he graduated from the Academy and became a U.S. Army Military Police.

L.A. Baez continued his studies in 2013, at Ana G Mendez University Campus of Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico where he obtained his Bachelor in Social Science with a major in Criminal Justice. On July 13th 2016 he was deployed with the Army to Central America where he was station for over a year. After hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017 he was awarded and Army Commendation Medal and a Humanitarian Service Medal for his disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico.

In 2019 he and his wife move to New York in where they currently reside.
