A Christmas Short Story

After spending the last five Christmases without my family, I was content with the way I did it. No pressure. No insane cooking and precisely no meddling in my life.

I didn't have to be up to anyone else's standards and that was Christmas enough for me.

However, when my boss called me for an unusual meeting and told me what he thought was good news, I was secretly crying inside. My intimate, calm and quaint Christmas plans were thrown out the window and I was left with two weeks of the unknown.

I was hoping to work through this year's holiday but it seemed like the prayers of my family were stronger than my wishes. When my boss who was usually a jerk told me that I was getting Christmas off this year, I thought to myself,

"Just my stupid luck."
