I Said My Piece with Peace: Inside USAID's Final Days: A Testament of Leadership When Everything Falls Apart

Keisha Effiom
Keisha L. Effiom is a former U.S. Foreign Service Officer with 18 years at USAID, where she rose to serve as Mission Director for Rwanda and Burundi, one of only eight African American women in the world to hold that distinction. During her tenure, she managed a $200M+ development portfolio across two nations, led her team through a historic Marburg outbreak response, and ultimately shepherded the dignified closure of both missions when USAID was dismantled in 2025.
Keisha is the CEO and Co-Founder of The Imara Advisory Group PLLC, a consulting firm that partners with organizations across Africa to turn vision into lasting impact. She has served across sub-Saharan Africa, building partnerships and leading development work that centers dignity, equity, and genuine transformation.
Rooted in faith and love, Keisha believes that servant leadership is not a strategy, it is a way of being. She lives in South Africa with her husband Vincent and their two children, and finds her greatest joy in family.
I Said My Piece with Peace is her first book.
