Some people were blessed with a lucky love story.

I just didn't happen to be one of those people.

My love story wasn't one you'd write about or wish for unless you had no other choice. Like me. My boyfriend, Zach, was all I had and he preferred it that way. If my focus ever veered off the course he set for us, his fists were quick to correct me.

He built his world around me so I didn't need to have my own, caging me inside a life assembled of iron-clad rules and love-inspired threats.

My co-star in that stupid play Zach let me go out for. If I hadn't auditioned, Kaleb and I never would have crossed paths. He never would have set his electric eyes on me and decided I was the cure to his inspiration drought. I never would have remembered how it felt to want someone's hands on me and feel safe.

Which was ironic really since there was nothing more dangerous than Kaleb deciding he wanted me.

He was eleven years older than me, and I was engaged.

I belonged to another man.

And that man would absolutely kill to keep what was his.
