'...As they climbed higher, they noticed that the thick undergrowth had given way to grassy clearings under the trees as the jungle became a mountain forest. Hundreds of birds warbled and chirped everywhere. Sometimes a deer or a fox scampered across the trail right in front of them, as here and there, shafts of sunlight reached the grassy ground through breaks in the overstory. Since it was winter, at about 2400 feet of altitude, the trees had partially lost their foliage, with many dry leaves covering the path they walked along.

"Hey, Fernando! Wait! Stop!" his wife Laura shouted, from somewhere down below.

As he stopped on a bend in the trail to let the others regain their breath and catch up, he noticed what it seemed to be the beginning of a walkway that went off the main path. Coming closer to it, he pushed aside a hanging network of liana, leafy creepers, and cobwebs with his machete.

Paved with flat stones and partially covered by moss and dead leaves, it was certainly a short walkway that went on under a canopy of long, straggling tree branches and ended at a big recess in a huge granite crag in the mountainside.

"Hey, you finally caught up with me! Look at what we have here," Fernando said, to his friends, who just showed up around the curve of the switch-back, as he pointed with his machete at the entrance of the short, jungle footway.

"What's that?" Becky said.

"It's a short passageway that leads up into that hole in the rocky cliff," Fernando said.

"Do you reckon the army or the guerrilla fighters stashed away something in that hole, like guns and ammo?"

"Yeah, maybe a huge amount of money from kidnapping ransoms, too," Becky said.

"We'd better go inside and take a look," Tony said....

....Using the machete as a lever, they tore off the slats from the two long joists that had been used as supports, only to discover that there was yet another hindrance standing in the way for them to fully explore the cavern. It was a strange metal gate blocking the access into the big cave in the huge granite rock. Written in both Spanish and English language, there was a warning sign attached to it; 'Pandora's Box. Extreme Danger. Do not trespass'; then in smaller letters down below; 'At the behest of the Argentinean and US Armies do not open this gate. The local population or even the people of an entire nation might be exposed to unimaginable havoc'.
