Ferren and the Invaders of Heaven is Book 3 in The Ferren Trilogy. It's a fantasy for Middle Grade and Young Adult readers, but not limited to those age groups - it appeals to adults too. Set a thousand years in the future, it has SF elements; as a retro-future, it has steampunk elements - but above all, it's a fantasy.

The trilogy could also be described as post-apocalyptic, since Earth has been reduced to a ruined wasteland by a thousand years of terra-celestial warfare and the original human beings have sunk to a bare, survival existence in small, isolated tribes. The difference in Ferren and the Invaders of Heaven is that the Humen rulers of the Earth are now launching their ultimate invasion of Heaven - so it's not only post-apocalyptic, it's about a new apocalypse!

The world of the novel is based upon traditional angelology, as preserved especially in not-quite-orthodox texts such as the Christian Apocrypha, the Judaic Kabala and the writings of the Sufi mystics. It's an esoteric realm of knowledge - we all know fragments, but most of it has been forgotten. Ferren and the Invaders of Heaven is based on the beautiful, fascinating lore of angelology as other fantasy worlds have been based on Celtic, Norse and Anglo-Saxon mythology.
