Whereas the woman assumes the role of a mother almost by design as soon as she delivers a baby, the man has to deliberately re-adjust his life, programs and projects to accommodate the coming in of a child into the family. Most men in the world do not realize the unique roles of being father to their children, until later in life when the die is almost cast for the children in terms of their behaviors and choices in life.

Again, the standard and pattern of fatherhood which we can draw from is the example we see in the Lord Himself as well as a few fathers in the bible.
Becoming the father you want to be is a journey of small steps. You are never too old to learn and to change where needed. For a father, when it comes to work and family, family should always come first.
The ideal father doesn't sit around and let his children grow up without him. He doesn't neglect his children or dismiss their accomplishments with a sigh and wave of the hand. The ideal father is someone who puts family before work, encourages his kids for the smallest reason that make the child happy like making a project in class for example, and he is also someone that can always be relied on.
The changes may seem awkward at first and will require persistence. This is your personal journey, the one you have chosen and want to succeed at. It will require devoted effort. Just as the popular quote says, "That which we persist in doing becomes easier to do, not that the nature of the thing has changed but that our power to do has increased." If you will remember this you will be successful in your journey to be the father you want to be.
To be a father is one thing, to be a dad is another. Being a dad means you're genetically related to the children. A father shows he's reliable and cares for his son or daughter. He doesn't take a second thought on skipping work to spend time with his family and is supportive to his kids. The ideal father is not just to be part of his kid's life but to be a daddy as well.

Many children today, especially young men have had to cope with the void of no father figure in their lives. Several who had fathers are not close in any way to their fathers for any significant impact on lives. Several fathers are genuinely ignorant and at a loss concerning what to do with their children as they are growing up. Most just leaves the responsibility to their wives, until probably the children are grown up and are presentable, when they now seek for their fathers.
