A brilliant cryptographer. A murderer who’s fond of riddles. The game has begun.

When the call comes, the police cryptographer Esther Zhi thinks it’s a prank. It’s the middle of the night, after all, she’s alone in the Bath headquarters, and some weird guy who calls himself Abner claims to be carrying out the work of God and wants to play a game with her. Seriously? Who’d fall for that?

However, when this Abner gives her a clue to a location, her curiosity gets the better of her, and Esther decodes it – only to find a dead body.

And make her boss, Chief Inspector Dakota Ryder, furious. Again. At the worst possible time. Esther is a cryptographer, an excellent one, and while she’s not good with people and social situations, solving puzzles is her second nature.
