Heretic is set in the near future and portrays an Orwellian world in which believing the wrong things can get you sent to re-education camps, and possessing books not approved by the government will get you jail time. It is a world in which 'free thinking' has been narrowly defined and dissenters are arrested as intellectual terrorists.

It follows the story of Jack who grew up believing his father, a famous scientist, had died in a car accident - until the day he inherits an old cottage deep in the woods. Buried in the contents of the cottage, among the banned books, he finds evidence that his father is still alive and in hiding, branded a criminal for intellectual dissent.

Jack risks everything to find his father, a scientist on the run and wanted by the Tolerance Bureau for speaking out. In his search for his father Jack also has to stay one step ahead of shadowy Tolerance agents. Can he find his father without losing his own freedom, alienating everyone he loves, and possibly losing his life?
