These poems are a recollection of the rollercoaster of emotions she went through as her life took unexpected turns, from the invasion of her Oregon home and a move to Louisiana to a historic hurricane that flooded her house and destroyed most of her material possessions. In addition, she suffered recurrent illnesses, multiple miscarriages, and difficulties adapting to the culture of America's Deep South and its racial inequities. The losses of her beloved grandma to COVID-19 and her German shepherd, Richard Parker, were seemingly too much for a normal human being to bear. She often felt like giving up, but she kept going thanks to the inspirational love of her precious two-year-old daughter. "The shore of safety, health, abundance, and love is close," she writes. "Do not give up so you can reach it!"
