About the author

Steve Lewis

Steve Lewis is a traveller, pilgrim, adventurer.  He specializes writing about cave, mine and deep wreck diving, and puts a strong emphasis on the role of mindfulness in risk management. He is the author of several diving textbooks including the best-sellers, The Six Skills and Staying Alive. He also contributes regular monthly and bi-monthly columns about diving and adventure travel to online magazines, print magazines, newspapers and blogs. Born in London, England, but a Canadian by choice, he lives in a converted, one-room schoolhouse in the wilds of Parry Sound, Muskoka. When he is not following his itchy feet to travel, lecture, dive or continue his life passion of learning, he cooks, watches for passing moose, and — with hatchet in hand — is on a mission to eradicate burdock from his wildflower meadow surrounding his home.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and was elected to the Explorers Club in 2005.
