Jill Morsbach
Based in the Cape Town metropole, South African author Jill Morsbach writes novels, short stories and plays for children as well as adults, mostly in the genres of science fiction and fantasy. Her stories are all African or South African based. In 2017 she won the South African Nova prize for adult short-story writing in the above genres.
Born and raised in the Eastern Cape, Jill obtained an Honours degree in English at Rhodes University in 1978. She taught secondary school English for a few years before doing a short stint as a journalist with an Eastern Cape newspaper. In 1983 she moving to Cape Town, where she became the media liaison officer for the then Provincial Department of Nature Conservation (now Cape Nature). She married the Director of the Department, Wolf Morsbach, in 1987 and then retired to travel extensively with her husband, who shared with her his interest in nature and environmental conservation.
Jill only began writing for publication in the new millennium. Her first novel, Shaka's Computer, was published by Shuter & Shooter in 2009. Widowed in 2018, she continues to write as a hobby and to travel.
