Of all the things Katie Walsh thought she'd be doing when she became a leviathan engineer, stealing an Italian leviathan over the Egyptian desert never crossed her mind. Until she finds herself in that exact situation with her brother Sean on the Ardente, embarking on a hazardous mission to transport a mysterious attaché case across the Mediterranean Sea and into Europe.

Captain Patrick Davis, commander of the newly-commissioned HMS Hadrian, is assigned to the task force charged with intercepting the Ardente and recovering the parcel it's carrying. But he's got his own problems to deal with, including a brand-new crew still getting to know their own vessel, and a devious agent of the British crown who knows more than he's telling about this particular mission.

And soon, leviathans are playing a deadly cat-and-mouse game thousands of feet above the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea…a game only one will survive…
