She plunged her blade into his chest, feeling it grind along his ribs...

Outcast swordfighter, Kyer Halidan, walked out of a cornfield at age three. Twenty years later, she sets out to discover who left her there. And why.

When she kills a man in a tavern duel, she catches the interest of Valrayker, one of her greatest heroes, who invites her to join his company on a mission to save a village. But the man she killed had powerful friends, and when they find out she's working for Valrayker they believe she killed him under Val's orders.

Desperate to learn what she knows about their plans, her new enemies pursue her relentlessly. When she is freed from a dire situation by an unknown magic, her friends grow suspicious, and her enemies have an all-new reason to want her dead. The trouble she brings, plus her impetuousness and disregard for consequences, make it difficult for Kyer to prove she deserves the respect of Val's company. But to rescue a village, and the continent, from a despicable evil, she must choose between adhering to duty and breaking the rules.

As for her identity, Valrayker has a theory about who she is, but he's not yet ready to share it with her, yet.

About the author

Krista Wallace

Hey friends! I'm Krista, and I write and record in a closet in Port Coquitlam, BC.

I write primarily Fantasy, in both short and long fiction, with stories published in Pulp Literature, Heart's Kiss, electricspec and 49th Parallels (an Aurora nominated anthology). I love reading aloud, so I expanded into audiobook narration of my own work and several books for others.

As it happens I'm also a musician and an actor. Favourite roles were in The Glass Menagerie, Twelfth Night, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and Pinchpenny Phantom of the Opera. My desire to support the arts for young people led me to work as Musical Director for a number of high school productions (Les Mis, Hairspray, Urinetown, In the Heights, Rent, etc.).

I sang classical music with the Vancouver Bach Choir, then switched to jazz, rock and R&B. I had a rock cover band for a dozen years, called Earth to Doris, and have been the vocalist for the big band, FAT Jazz for over twenty years. I'm also half of a jazz duo called the Itty Bitty Big Band.
