About the author

Al Isaacs

Al Isaacs is a writer, performer, and lifelong storyteller whose journey from the comedy stage to the page has been anything but ordinary. A two-time winner of Long Island Press’s “Best Comedian on Long Island” award, Al spent decades making audiences laugh in theaters and nightclubs, before life handed him a plot twist worthy of its own show: at age fifty, he learned he had been adopted. What followed was a years-long search filled with false leads, DNA tests, and emotional reckonings that culminated in an extraordinary reunion with his birth mother—an odyssey that inspired his memoir, Finding Mary Smith.

Al’s career has blended humor, heart, and human connection. He has taught improv comedy for over twenty years at schools, comedy clubs, corporate events, and Hofstra University’s Continuing Education program, helping students use laughter to build confidence, empathy, and teamwork. His background in improvisation shapes his writing style—quick, insightful, and full of unexpected turns. Through storytelling, he explores how ordinary people navigate extraordinary truths.

A proud husband and father, Al lives on Long Island with his wife, Theresa, and their son, Nick. When he’s not writing or teaching, he can often be found performing, coaching new comedians, or searching for the perfect Brooklyn egg cream.
