About the author

Ioan Trif

Ioan Trif was born in Transylvania, Romania, at the foot of the Făgăraș Mountains. He attended elementary school in the village of Ucea de Sus and the Theoretical High School in the town of Victoria, Brașov County. He then continued his studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Timișoara, specializing in Automation and Computers. After graduation, he began his internship at IIRUC Bucharest, Section 15, Sibiu branch.

In the autumn of 1984, after walking for ten days through the mountains, guided only by a compass, pursued by soldiers, dogs, and hunger, Ioan escaped Ceaușescu’s Romania by swimming across the Danube. Upon arriving in Ottawa, Canada, he completed a Master of Applied Sciences (MASc) in Electrical Engineering, with a thesis in Artificial Intelligence, at the University of Ottawa.

Ioan continued his professional career in software engineering at renowned Canadian companies such as Bell Northern Research and Nortel Networks.

An entrepreneur, inventor, and lover of poetry, Ioan has lived in the beautiful Ottawa–Gatineau region of Canada for more than four decades.
