End of the Spear is a true story that I read with my hand over my heart through much of the book. It’s written by Steve Saint, the son of one of the five missionaries murdered by the Waodani Tribe in Ecuador in 1956. The tribe subsequently adopted Steve at age five, and later, the tribal people became “God followers.”

The book is a touching disclosure about a tribal people struggling to understand the modern world—as Steve gradually learns about how his father was killed. With hesitation, he must question the very men who were there that day, men who later became Steve’s close brothers in the faith.

Steve is careful to testify very clearly of God’s hand involved on that fateful and bloody day. Of Christians who heard of the martyrs in the 1950s—many were stirred in their hearts to commit their lives to the same risks in order to share the gospel. God used their deaths! Later, Steve traveled worldwide with one of the killers to share the gospel.

From beginning to end, I was challenged in my own Christianity. Do I have this same type of forgiveness? This kind of passion to see people come to Christ, even if it means loving a murderer?

Steve led his family down a path of reconciliation that will stir the soul of those who read this exciting and compelling book. The pictures add a special reality to the whole story. I’m more complete as a Christian having learned of this kind of self-sacrifice and faithfulness—all in the footsteps of Jesus!

Without a doubt, End of the Spear is worth five stars! I highly recommend you read this book.
