Joseph would have rather gotten money in his eccentric uncle’s will, but instead attorneys had a heavy, beat-up old steamer trunk delivered to his Seattle home. Since both his parents had passed away, he needed money to pay the skyrocketing property taxes more than luggage.

The box was filled with odd devices, apparently built by some associate of Nikola Tesla, like something out of a steampunk novel. Who knew their value? But they had to be worth something, right? Until Joseph broke one.

Maybe he could fix it, he majored in electrical engineering after all. He borrowed a lab and tinkered with it until made it work. Now he has an unbelievable machine, an earth-shaking discovery, and no idea how to profit from it.

A shadowy organization finds him when he joins the Seafair Pirates to announce his device. They make him an offer he can’t refuse, and they won’t take no for an answer.
