The saga begins with a brutal battle fought twenty years earlier. Men, known as the Outsiders, discovered an open gateway between the two universes allowing them to enter Nirvana to attack and pillage the north and east of the land. After his father, Caristan is killed in battle against the raiders, his son, Axel, spends several years building and training an army to defend against and defeat the raiders.

Twenty years after the battle Astraea is a sixteen-year-old girl with a pet dragon called Wyvern. She can travel between Universes using her special powers. Astraea experiences dreams that include in them a very young child calling to her and a boy, her age, also desperately summoning her. Who is the mysterious boy and why is he calling to her?

Astraea senses the boy needs her help and visits him to find he has troubles with a bunch of hooligans led by Beynon. Astra attempts to inspire confidence in the boy, but little does he know he is about to be transported headlong into a vicious war in Astraea's Universe.

Ashram is the religious leader and founder of the faith SCON. Over the years, he has managed to convert many thousands of followers, some fervent. Rumours abound of a possible rebellion. Can the boy affect the outcome of a battle which not only decides the future of Astra's family but also of Nirvana and the boy himself?
