Alex Desocarras was a detective sergeant with the RCMP when a member of his Nation was shot down in front of him by a fellow officer. The man died the same day, but the officer was not convicted of any wrongdoing. It was the last straw for Alex. He left the force shortly after, moved to Vancouver with his wife, Gwen, and started his own PI firm.

A year later, Alex is hired to get to the bottom of the abduction of lawyers Max King and Rose Barlow. Max is Indigenous; his mother is a Kaska Dene Band Chief. His girlfriend Rose's dad is a sitting judge and less than thrilled with her choice of boyfriend.

Rose Barlow does manage to escape, saving both herself and her guy. Alex puts the family on locdown, but whoever is behind the abductions very quickly ups the ante. When Alex barely escapes the first attempt on his life, he calls on good friend and ex-partner Eugene Munroe to assist.

With little else to go on, Alex and Max both suspect big mining is involved and if mining interests are behind this, the stakes are very high.
