The morning after the Netherfield Ball, Elizabeth refuses Mr Collins' long-winded and presumptuous proposal of marriage, storms out of Longbourn and heads for the woods where she runs fast and far. She startles blackbirds and their flight path disturbs Mr Darcy's horse, which throws him on the grown. She finds him minutes later, laying on the ground and tends to his wounds. His ankle turns out to be broken, and he stays at Netherfield longer than it was planned. Their short time together during this incident convinces Darcy that he is in love with Elizabeth. She becomes aware of his changed manner and develops feelings for him, too. Unfortunately, due to misunderstanding, Elizabeth decides her first impression about the gentleman must have been correct and go in Jane's place to visit the Gardiners in London. But Darcy doesn't give up and decides to win her love... This story was previously published on few JAFF websites, also under the title: "A Rush of Blackbirds".
