Koenraad ‘Koen’ Vanhoutte holds a PhD in Biological Sciences and is specialized in micro-algae and microbial ecosystems. He holds a Master in Applied Biostatistics and Research Methods, a Licentiaat degree (MSc) in Botany and received an MBA degree at the Vlerick Business School. During his academic career (1997-2004) he was a researcher at the University of Ghent, he trained dozens of algae scientists and is the author of various scientific papers and book chapters.

     Shifting gears he changed career by moving towards the emerging sustainable industries. He is founder of several startup companies in life sciences and sustainable water industry. He is also active in several sustainable businesses in the arts and crafts industry.
