The preacher in the church community chose Mel, and she felt trapped in a cycle of violence and manipulation. The physical and sexual abuse she endured only added to the decades of trauma she carried within her.

During these times Mia was subjected to the cruelty of this world being raped and taken advantage of at a very young age, until she meets her second abuser who gets her pregant and she is forced to marry him.

This resilience is evident in her ability to survive and protect her three children amidst the adversity she has experienced. Mel's or her children and her determination to shield them from the same horrors she endured is a testament to her strength and resilience.
