We have been walking for many months now.

Maybe three months. I don't know exactly.

We are approaching the coast and the dreaded crossing.

I am a warrior and my sisters trust me. We cannot back down anyway.

Rome is sending us here to secure the northernmost border of the Empire.

Very few people thought that we still existed

and yet I am the descendant of the mythical warriors who faced the Greeks a long time ago.

We know very little about the land we are heading towards and the enemies we are going to have to contain and fight. The climate it seems is harsh. But we are still far from the final destination. We don't know if we will be back. Our land is so far now.

It does not matter. Like our ancestors, the will to discover new spaces will save us.

We cannot be tamed indefinitely. At the moment, we are serving Rome.

They allow us to keep our long hair like a mane held with a few braids,

a symbol of subdued ardor, although we protect it and it is

difficult in the distance to see ourselves as Amazons.

What matters is not to be a man or a woman, but to be

free and barbaric. Although this freedom to be ourselves is tenuous.

We pay the tribute of our past defeats like all deditions and vanquished peoples.

Without being a slave, we aredeported like animals.

It is clear that the Romans have the gift of organizing and crisscrossing their territory.

I see it bitterly as we move forward through the Empire.

They captured us like savages, beasts cornered and helpless before their tactical force.

They doubly secure the limes and their borders by enlisting us to other lands in chalk,

willingly or by force.

But we're not there just to distract them and die. We serve them before we die,

anchored in the front line.

They buy us up by offering us commands and ranks that they say are prestigious and

send us to the edge of the Empire.

This time they were even smarter when they sent us to defend Hadrian's Wall.

They know how to strike a chord

and as connoisseurs of our history they know that our sisters of yesteryear,

fine archers, had given assistance and their spears to the Trojans facing the siege of the Greeks.

They also know that we are guerrilla experts and good horse riders,

so they send us as auxiliary troops to counter these attackers

at the mythical limits of the Ekumene and Terra Cognita.
