Through the Valley of Tears - An Incest Survivor's Story of Trauma and Recovery
Tammy Lansaw
About the Author
Tammy Lansaw grew up in Portland, Oregon, in a large family. As a child she always wanted to grow up to be like her mother, get married, become a homemaker, and have children.
As she was growing up, the backwash of the incest and her father’s emotional problems caused many negative issues in her home, leading Tammy to deep suicidal depression. Fortunately, God had his hand on her life. Classmates from her high school invited her to church, and within a year she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord of her life. This was the beginning of her healing process and her walk through The Valley of Tears.
Tammy’s dream of marriage and children never died, and she began praying for God’s best for her life. She prayed continually, as one of her mentors had taught her, that she would never take anything less than God’s best. Fourteen years after beginning that prayer for God’s choice for a husband, she met her life-partner, Victor Lansaw. He is a veteran of the Coast Guard, who has a deep love for the Lord, evangelism, and group Bible study. As Tammy would learn over time, the Lord couldn’t have chosen a more sensitive, loving, supportive, and trustworthy man to take this journey with her.
Upon graduating from high school, one of Tammy’s goals was to attend a Bible College. She was not able to achieve that goal, because of the emotional pain and insecurity caused by the incest. However, after being married for 25 years, she attended North Portland Bible College, completing four terms of Old Testament Studies. This is something she loves and hopes to continue in the future.
Tammy has always loved to write but hesitated to write on the topic of her abuse and family dysfunction, because she did not wish to dishonor or embarrass her mother or siblings in any way. With the passing of her mother and after discussing writing this book with her siblings, she learned that they were all in full support. Most of all, with the support of friends and her pastor, she felt the Lord was definitely leading her in this direction.
In addition to writing, Tammy loves singing. She loves Christian music and had spent many years singing in church choirs. Tammy also loves gardening and sewing her own clothes and quilts. She currently lives in Battle Ground, Washington, with her husband, Victor, to whom she has been married for 32 years.
