Brett is a young farmer battling to save his farm amidst a bereavement and a crippling drought. Jacqui stumbles into his life after being transferred to the small school in remote Manwarring. The young couple forms an alliance with an old-timer, and despite hardship, the three become close friends.

Jacqui and Brett grow closer, but someone appears intent on causing them harm. Small, annoying damage escalates until the incidents begin to cause real concern.

After Jacqui is assaulted, she returns to her home town of Kyoga to recuperate. Brett's fears that Jacqui won't return after her convalescence eventuate, and he is left to deal with life on the farm without Jacqui and Sid's backing.

When tragedy strikes, Brett places his anger aside and offers Jacqui his support. To their dismay, they discover that someone close to Jacqui had been meddling in their affairs. Can the unity they shared be restored or is the damage too much to try again?
