Anonda…

She swam up slowly. The water was warm but the current seemed so hard to fight against. She wasn't panicked. She could do it. It was just hard, and she wondered why she had dived in so deep. Dived in so deep when Scotty had warned her not too. Warned her that the current would be hard to fight, and it was. She could feel the water crashing down on her head. He had told her...

A hand thrust down through the water and she clasped it. Felt Scotty's strength as he pulled her up out of the water and under the waterfall.

The sunlight half-lit the small water carved area. The water cascaded before them, yellows, browns and greens all mixed together. She drew a deep breath and smelled the river water as she drew it into her lungs.

"It's unreal, Scotty," she breathed.

"Beautiful," Scotty agreed. His hand still held hers. It had remained since he had pulled her free.

"Your hand is so cold," Anonda told him.

"Yeah," Scotty agreed. He looked at her hands, met her eyes, and then reluctantly let go of her hand.

"Hey," she told him. "You didn't half to let go... You." She stopped. Her hand had found his but she had slipped right past it somehow. Somehow, and she could not fathom how, her hand had slipped right past his and she had not even felt it when it had. She tried again and watched as her fingers slid right through his hand as though it were nothing. "Baby," she started.

But when she raised her eyes it was as though Scotty had become a ghost. He seemed to be a shadow standing under the hollowed out space as the water roared by. He flickered. "I just wanted to say goodbye," he told her. "I only wanted to say goodbye.... Watch the deep water... don't swim under the falls, Anonda." He flickered again.

Anonda lunged forward and tried to catch him but he was gone. The waterfall was gone. She shivered as the cold surrounded her: The blackness. Then she was spinning upward into the light; coming from some other place. Screaming for Scotty as she went...

Her eyes opened. The light was dim. The air cool, Lizzy's face swam into view above her. She was suddenly thirsty. A dull far-away pain flared in her arm. "Am I dead," She asked Lizzy. A second later she was falling back down through the darkness: The water surrounding her once more. Scotty's hand reached down through the bubbling water and she grasped his wrist. Felt her body began to rise once more from the water...
