The connection between popcorn and movie theaters is younger than you may imagine, and it's often turbulent and constantly changing. . For decades, the snack has been popular at carnivals and fairs. 27 The owners were opposed to popcorn because they thought it would detract from the high-end ambiance they had worked so hard to achieve.
