Amber Can't Read is based on the true story of a real little girl named Amber, who is a friend of both the author and the illustrator. Hers is the heartbreaking story of a little girl who was so excited to enter into the magical world of reading books, but when she started school, Amber just couldn't make sense of all the black squiggles on white paper.

So, her parents took her to a reading specialist, a magical woman named Ms. Beazer, who told them that Amber had a disability called, "dyslexia." But she introduced Amber and her parents to a special way to overcome this disability if...if Amber was willing to work hard and trust that she had the power inside herself to one day, read with ease.

So, at its heart, Amber's journey to the world of reading is about trust-- trust in herself, her parents, Ms. Beazer, and an unusual method of bypassing the disability and creating her ability to turn those squiggles into letters, those letters into words and those words into stories...stories she loved to read and read and read.

At the end of Amber's story, there is a resource section for parents and grandparents with information, from diagnosing to treatment centers, for children who may have dyslexia.
