Denise Schickel, Ph.D

<p>Life presents us with various challenges and opportunities. We can&#8217;t foresee what life will offer us, but we can prepare ourselves by doing what is in our power, to strengthen ourselves physically and mentally.</p><p/><p>My journey to seeking strategies of self-care grew out of stressful periods in my life, during which I felt overwhelmed and vulnerable. My desire to change my life and get back on track led me on a long and winding road through consciousness raising seminars, alternative health modalities, yoga, meditation, body work, and finally, following an inner directed life path, into meaningful work doing massage therapy.</p><p/><p>Some ideas I explored did not fit; others became incorporated into my life. It&#8217;s important for you to experiment and explore ideas and practices to discover what strategies fit your personality. I read books, and took seminars/workshops, to see what resonated with me. Sometimes you learn about yourself by what you don&#8217;t like, as well as what you do.</p><p/><p>I began in high school reading books on psychology, and after traveling around through various other topics have arrived back there again. My endless quest for understanding the mind/body has come full circle, and my goal is to stay as active and healthy as I can to continue on this fascinating odyssey.</p>
