Elizabeth Thompson
Welcome to Lizzi's author page!

Modern Equine Dentistry for Horse Owners is Elizabeth Thompson's, or Lizzi's, first published full-length non-fiction work. She has been writing for quite a while in the fiction realm as Lizzi Tremayne. You'll find her books under the author name Lizzi Tremayne.

Now for the serious stuff..... But can a vet write?
Well, she's won plenty of awards, both for her nonfiction (two very nice bronzes for winning the Jonathan Hope Award for the Best Practitioner Publication in NZ for both 2010 and 2003) and for her fiction as Lizzi Tremayne she's won the 2014 RWNZ Pacific Hearts Award for the unpublished full manuscript; the 2015 RWNZ Koru Award for Best First Novel and third in Koru Long Novel section, was a finalist in the 2015 Best Indie Book Award and also won True West Magazine’s Best Western Romance 2016, so that might make her Equine Vet Today series readable, anyway!

But what about her?
Lizzi grew up riding wild in the Santa Cruz Mountain redwoods and now runs a referral equine dental veterinary practice from Waihi, New Zealand. A 1988 graduate of UC Davis in the Equine Track, she entered equine practice in California. Following training in Pennsylvania in acupuncture and chiropractic, she moved to New Zealand, where she worked as a Waikato equine veterinarian, subsequently going out on her own after the birth of her first child. In 2003 she began serious study of equine dentistry with Gary Wilson and in 2004 completed his Equine Dentistry Sydney PostGrad Foundation course, then achieved her MANZCVS. Lizzi serves on NZEVA’s Dental Subcommittee and is currently the President of the Dentistry chapter of the MANZCVS (look it up, it's in Australia). She has taught at NZ and overseas dental conferences and workshops, and has published over 30 articles in veterinary journals and equestrian magazines.

Following an injury, she completed a GradDipTeach and taught college (high school) chemistry, biology, (and physics!) but now she’s back to referral equine (and rhino, zebra and camelid) dentistry, teaching dentistry, and writing. She rants about dentistry to anyone who stands still long enough. She has also developed Equi-Still Portable Equine Stocks and Dental Instrumentation as well as just published Modern Equine Dentistry for Horse Owners! She’s an awarded author of historical and contemporary fiction as Lizzi Tremayne, as well. She loves hobby-farming with her Dexters and her retired horses, as well as playing at medieval reenactment.
