Simon Huston

I am an academic, analyst, qualified accountant and author. My research is multidisciplinary and involves strategy, performance management, sustainable investment, urban development and learning. I have designed or taught 47 business-related university modules across the education spectrum in 3 colleges and 7 universities. I have published 22 journal articles, a book on urban regeneration, 9 book chapters and peer-reviewed over 150 papers. My career path was somewhat unconventional. At 19, I joined the Legion and became a paratrooper in 2è R.E.P. in Calvi, Corsica. For two years, I served as a reconnaissance driver then served as a medic in Djibouti, Central Africa and Tchad (during Operation Manta). I treated locals and experienced the exhilaration and bloody consequences of conflict. After my military service, I read Economics at LSE and worked as an accountant for Deloitte. I taught in Kenya and the Middle East (UAE, KSA, Oman). I researched and lectured at the University of Queensland and worked for the State Government in Commercial Advisory Services. Since returning to UK, I have lectured Real Estate and Accountancy in three universities and am now based at Coventry. I retain an enduring interest in the classics, military strategy and France’s colonial history.
