About the author
Alexis Smalls

Hi, I'm Alexis Smalls—a healthcare consultant, Home Care Operator, and advocate for survivors of trauma and abuse. My journey began in 2015 as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and over the years, I've worked my way to becoming a certified medical manager in North Carolina. With an associate degree in Healthcare Management, I've dedicated my career to supporting healthcare businesses, focusing on revenue cycle management, compliance, and patient-centered care.

But beyond my professional life, I'm a survivor. I've faced childhood abuse, domestic violence, and the challenges of living with bipolar type 2 disorder. These experiences have shaped who I am and inspired my mission to help others overcome their own struggles. That's why I founded Bruises to Business, a nonprofit that provides safe haven housing, career counseling, mentorship, and business development for trauma survivors.

Writing "Bruises to Business" has been one of the most personal and transformative experiences of my life. This book is a reflection of my journey from pain to purpose, and my hope is that it inspires others to believe in their own ability to heal and thrive.

When I'm not consulting or writing, you'll find me enjoying the outdoors, spending time with my two dogs, or leaning into my faith to navigate life's challenges. I believe in resilience, the power of community, and the beauty of rediscovering yourself after life knocks you down.

This is my story, and I hope it helps you realize that your story is still being written, too.
