Rob Fennell

I’m a writer, editor, pastor, professor, and consultant. I’m blessed to spend my days (and too many nights) puzzling over words and putting more of them together. Born and raised in Western Canada, I’ve lived all over the world’s second largest country, and I spent a year studying in Scotland. For more than a decade, Nova Scotia has been home to my family and me. It’s a beautiful place, full of kind people.

I got hooked on writing when my second grade teacher made it seem like a world of fun. My first Great Work was a story called, “Mixed Up Fairy Tales,” written on a half-page leaf from a primary composition book. (Someday I’ll publish it and retire.) In high school I asked my English literature teachers to coach me as a writer, and I’ve been trying to learn more about the craft ever since.

In addition to writing, I enjoy camping, canoeing, hiking, chopping wood, teaching, laughing, chocolate, and movies. Oh, and books. I’m too embarrassed to tell you how many I have. (Hint: it’s a lot.)

Some of my favourite writers are C.S. Lewis, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Umberto Eco, John Irving, and Charles Dickens. My favourite books are The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Dune by Frank Herbert, and the Bible.

Words, meanings, translations, metaphors, interpretations, idioms, subtexts, sounds, and languages all fascinate me. The human capacity for communication (and miscommunication) via these funny little marks on the page or screen is strange, brilliant, and delightful.

Enjoy your writing!

Rob Fennell
