<p><strong>Afdhere Jama</strong> was born in Somalia and grew up in the Mogadishu of the 1980s. When he was a teenager he moved to the United States. He was the editor of <em>Huriyah</em>, the first magazine for LGBT Muslims, which was in publication (both in English and Arabic) between 2000 and 2010. His other books include <em>Being Queer and Somali: LGBT Somalis At Home and Abroad</em>, Illegal Citizens: Queer Lives in the Muslim World, and <em>Queer Jihad: LGBT Muslims on Coming Out, Activism, and the Faith</em>. He lives in New York.</p>
