<p><strong>Vera</strong><strong> Bužarovska</strong> (b.1931 Bitola – d.2013 Skopje) began her writing career in 1962, publishing more than forty works of prose and poetry for adults and children. Her novels center mainly on the fate of women in a patriarchal society. Of particular note is the novel <em>Akčilnica</em> (1974; <em>The Last Summer in the Old Bazaar</em>), a powerful autobiographical story of the author’s childhood and her hometown, Bitola, in the period before and during the Second World War.</p>
