About the author
Jennese Alicia Torres

A Native New Yorker, Torres grew up with the entrepreneurial spirit. Her father owned his own bread route aka “el panadero”, and her grandma owned her own botanica, and later sold Avon. Watching her grandma counting and doing the books, filling orders, keeping careful records, and listening to her father talking about the route, dealing with customers, filling orders and keeping careful records, Torres got to thinking that these businesses are not so different from each other after all, and neither is a law office. She decided to start her own law office using the lessons she grew up with, beginning with a virtual office at TuAbogadoDelPueblo.com. Torres and Urbaez, PC now has an office in New York and another in New Jersey.

Torres is a lawyer and entrepreneur and she is also a publisher. A social media enthusiast, she is the publisher of LaDivaLatina.com. La Diva Latina is an online publication that uses humor, wit, stats, current events, news, spotlights on Latina leaders, tough love, personal narratives, and of course, diva flair to get the message across that education is the key to the American Dream. La Diva Latina is an acronym for: Living the American Dream I Vividly Act Latina.

When Torres started her website, it was so successful that it was stolen from the internet, in a process called cyber-squatting. She quickly took off her publisher hat and put on her lawyer hat and got to work researching the complex area of cyberlaw. She got her website back in record time. Now, LaDivaLatina.com has taken a life of its own and through it, Torres has been invited as a speaker to many events, for example, Latinas con Vision with New York Life, Latina leadership Forum with 100 Hispanic Women of Westchester, etc. She has also been invited to see the Pink concert, and met Jennifer Lopez through La Diva Latina.

Following her passion for writing with La Diva has opened many doors for her. Not only did she learn skills thru La Diva that helped her launch her law practice, such as web promotion, but she also accomplished her goal of meeting her icon Jennifer Lopez. Torres jokes that she can now rest because she has accomplished her two biggest goals: she met Jennifer Lopez and she also met the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor!
