<p>&#160;&#8220;Dubbed the bridal shoe guru by fashion editors&#8221;</p>&#13; &#13; <p>Alan, educated at Melbourne Grammar, was a keen sportsman, eventually<br/>&#13; playing for the Old Melburnians in the Amateur Football Association,<br/>&#13; representing the State, then selected as an All Australian.</p>&#13; &#13; <p/>&#13; &#13; <p>In the 1960&#8217;s, specialising in high fashion shoes, including glamorous styles for<br/>&#13; brides, bridesmaids, mothers, and guests, he opened the first city location named<br/>&#13; &#8220;PINKYS&#8221;, followed by a 2-level boutique, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere,<br/>&#13; opposite the Melbourne Town Hall.</p>&#13; &#13; <p>Alan changed the store name to &#8220;Alan Pinkus&#8221; highlighting his flair for &#8220;theatre&#8221; to attract a specific clientele.</p>&#13; &#13; <p>He became respected as an innovator in the footwear and retail industries in Australia&#160;and overseas by his international product development.</p>&#13; &#13; <p>Myer, a major departmental group, invited Alan and his wife Diana to open<br/>&#13; concession departments nationally, and then welcomed him as a Fashion on<br/>&#13; the Fields judge at the prestigious Melbourne Cup Carnival.</p>&#13; &#13; <p/>&#13; &#13; <p>He joined the Rotary Club of Brighton in 1975 and was elected President 1986-7.</p>&#13; &#13; <p/>&#13; &#13; <p>He was presented with an &#8220;Award of 40 Years&#8221; commendation for dedication<br/>&#13; to retailing in the city, by the Lord Mayor of Melbourne.</p>&#13; &#13; <p>In retirement the question often asked; &#8220;why have you been involved in the<br/>&#13; development and design of women&#8217;s shoes over 50 years?&#8221;</p>&#13; &#13; <p>Simply, &#8220;the personal satisfaction one receives when a female proudly &#8220;walks<br/>&#13; tall&#8221; completing a creative vision of the total look, in an exciting pair of Alan<br/>&#13; Pinkus shoes!&#8221;</p>
