M. A. Melby grew up on a farm in Minnesota, writing poetry and stories, playing flute and bassoon, singing in church, and hanging out in the closet.

Once she left home, she jumped headfirst into the geek and queer communities. Eventually she earned master’s degrees in physics and music, and taught science in college.

She’s been writing editorials, short fiction, and poetry, in various contexts for many years, often exploring atheism, religion, neurodiversity, mental health, sexuality, and gender.

Recently, she sat down to write a short story and accidentally wrote a novel. Then, she wrote another one, and another, and hasn’t stopped yet.
