I am a novelist, screenwriter and traveler. I am the author of three published novels: <em>Black Plume:</em><em>The Suppressed Memoirs of Edgar Allan Poe,</em> Simon and Schuster; <em>U.S.S.A. (Book of the Month Club selection, translated into several languages), and Vodoun,</em> William Morrow. I am also a produced screenwriter, with credits that include <em>Copycat</em>, the Warner Brothers thriller starring Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter. I’m currently plotting my next novel, a mystery set in 1970s San Francisco. On my research visits to the San Francisco library, I stop by a glass case in Special Collections to pay my respects to Dashiell Hammett’s typewriter.
