<p>Karl G. Trautman is the editor of <em>The New Populist Reader</em> and the author of <em>The Underdog in American Politics: The Democratic Party and Liberal Values</em>. He was born in Wisconsin and has been fascinated by politics most of his life. He has been a policy analyst and newspaper columnist and is currently is an instructor of political science at Central Maine Community College.</p>
