About the author
MM Desch

Mary Desch is a former psychiatrist who lives in Portland, Oregon, USA and writes psychological thriller stories. She is a member of several groups and subgroups within Sisters in Crime and the Willamette Writer's community. Her childhood attraction to the Alfred Hitchcock Magazine grew into a college love for detective fiction. Not surprisingly, she leaned toward the psychological. Before age thirty, she'd entered private psychiatric practice which allowed an intimate view of the human experience through an abundance of stories.

Mary's medical work primed her to create relatable fictional characters and situations of psychological and physical danger. These experiences have informed her writing; crafting psychological thrillers was a natural fit. Mary's debut novel, TANGLED DARKNESS, was recently added to the 2023 Chanticleer Clue Awards short list and will be published in July 2025 by Rowan Prose Publishing.

When not writing, Mary's interests include hiking, long dog walks with her wife and their rascal mini schnauzer, golf, Portland food carts, and the WNBA.
