Love wasn't worth the pain of disappointment and rejection that followed, so Harper Collingswood locked up her heart and swore she would never allow another man to break it.
But rules were meant to be broken, especially with the enigmatic, broody, and way too gorgeous for his own good, Bennett McIntyre.
Bennett used to have dreams. He used to laugh and be the center of attention. Mr. Popular who had women clamoring to catch his eye and his attention. He was a rising star in baseball with a bright future ahead of him. But he wasn't that person anymore.
Some would call it fate. Some would claim serendipity. Others would say it was destiny. Whatever it was called, it was terrifying. Harper and Bennett had barely survived one tragedy. Would they be able to survive falling in love?
From award-winning romance author Jennilynn Wyer comes a small-town romance of two beautifully broken people who were destined to be soulmates.

I have to say, I love this series and this book is another top favorite. I loved how this shows that everyone grieves through tragedy differently. One of the biggest steps I loved seeing her take was to stop living scared and to actually take control of her life again. You could definitely feel his pain of what could have been, but I loved seeing him let go of the guilt and realize that he was worthy. Wonderful read!
Ms. Wyer also has the ability to make sweet and innocent scenes more intimate then actual “love” scenes. I really love when authors do this. She weaves in subtle touches and fun one liners, that just make it adorable. Don’t get me wrong, she is also capable of bringing the steam and drama; she does it all. But it’s those small cute moments between her couples that have me giddy or swoon and want to keep reading.
I am a big fan of seeing/reading about a couple actually being a couple. I hate when books dance around them getting together and end with a kiss or something. I like seeing them together for a while. I am all about angst, but it’s nice when the couple can face things together and not always be ripped apart. So if that’s your style as well, this is a good book for you!
Ms. Wyer also gives great details to get a mental picture of the settings and people in a way that reels you in. I enjoyed ALL the supporting characters. Usually there is someone written terribly and it ruins things for me, but the friendships in this book were fierce, unwavering and fun. I wanted to be friends with them!
This is my second book of Ms. Wyer’s (I read the previous one in this series) and while I wanted to read the first three books in the series, I read too many spoilers and it just didn’t sound like I would enjoy it as much (triangles, bad epilogues, etc). So I will stick with these “new” sibling stories. There were some small errors of a wrong name and using the wrong word that spellcheck missed because it’s an actual word, so I just deducted a half a star for that. It wasn’t distracting though and didn’t happen often.
The only thing that confused me was timelines. No mention of JD? I thought he was with Aurora at this point when the siblings found out their history? I liked their story and would have liked to see him around. This is kind of why I don’t like to read a series until they are all done, I get confused because I read so many books in between release dates, and now I see the next book is due out January of 2023? I’ll be completely lost, I hope I remember to even read it! I can honestly say I didn’t want this book to end. While the sibling storyline was just as weird (please explain why this “father” never used protection) as the previous book (I don’t think that storyline is needed or furthers the plot much), I enjoyed all the other aspects of the book. Sounds cliché but I really did get all the feels with this one. Loved Bennett and Harper and am looking forward to reading more about them in the next book.

What I loved about this book was how a tragedy can help bring you together. When there is a shared trauma between two people, they can seek comfort in each other. Two people who had to become broken to come together.
The back story and past could be a trigger warning for readers. Bennett and Harper went to highschool together. They didn’t run in the same circles in school. But one tragic day there was a school shooting at their school and it sealed a connection they would always have for each other. The story of their coming together is six months after the shooting when they find themselves going to college together.
The way they helped each other get past this trauma was beautiful Jennilynn did an amazing job at showing many different forms of grief with not just Bennet and Harper but their friends who also ended up going to the same college. It adds a found family aspect to this group.
Bennett will make you melt with how he grows and falls so hard for the girl he says saved him that day. Harper is a warrior who doesn’t want her fears to stop her from anything.
It’s not overly discriptive and it’s a part of their past. There is just enough for you to know what happened. That day they saved each other. When they meet again at college they continue to save each each other
What the heck is a coy fish? Koi I've heard of, but maybe the author's fish is shyly flirtatious?
