<br>Add an Author Biography<br>For a long time , I tried to do what everyone else told me was the common sense thing to do—get a teaching credential. I’ve never been a big fan of common sense. While all my friends from high school were hanging out at the mall, I hung out at the library and bookstore. So I was walking through the bookstore at Cal State Universitywhen I saw a novel and thought, <em>this is what I need to be doing.</em><br>It took time—it took years—for me to get up the courage to do what I lov. I see writing as a craft. As I stare bewildered at that first blank screen, I know that all my tools—the hammer, the saw, the nails, screws, bolts, and planks—are in my head. The craft is in getting them out of my head and onto the page in a way that makes sense to you, the reader.<br> <br> <br>
