***2.5 Stars*** I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting a kids book when I read this one, though I probably should have. Unfortunately, the blurb wasn’t clear about that. However, once I started reading it, it quickly became apparent that this was a kid’s book. What I couldn’t figure out was what age group. I assume it’s a YA but it is extremely simplistic for a YA. My teenage daughter would never read this. This is something she would have read in 4th and 5th grade when she was reading Katie Kazoo. However, it has a bit of kissing and mentions guys sleeping over which doesn’t quite put it at that level. I am still confused about which age group it lands in. The writing was decent, the story extremely simple and straightforward. There were no twists and turns worth mentioning – in fact everything was boringly predictable, and I was unclear what the Academy had to do with anything. The romance wasn’t worth mentioning– I couldn’t see what they saw in each other, other than he was first guy who gave her any attention. The only mitigating feature was that the writing was decent, and the friendship angle was nice. Long and short, I did not like book at all and had to slog through it. I come back to maybe middle schoolers would like it? 6th grade? Not sure. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The twists and turns with the characters each making the plot thicken at different times. Walter & Briar's relationship goes smoothly & ends with him finally meeting her mother & father. Rapunzel has a very special bond between Briar & herself as it strengthens quite abit. I'm glad that Briar has had Rapunzel & Gavin in her life. The ending was quite magical. I'm glad to read the next story in the series as I'm now wondering what will happen next?

This is a different re-telling of Sleeping Beauty and it's geared more towards young adults but very enjoyable. It's premise is that Grimm Academy is for those fairy tale characters that want to escape their fate but that proves a little difficult for Briar. The story has some mystery and danger but still that sweet, young romance you expect along with friendships. I can't wait to see where the rest of the stories takes us.
